1967 Aston Martin DB6
The Aston Martin DB6 unfortunately is not highly regarded as the DB4
and DB5 models. The DB5 became popular because it was in some of the
James Bond films. The DB4 was popular because it was the original of
the species and of its legendary GT and Zagato Variants.
The DB6 was a much better car than the other two models. While the
style remained the same, the longer wheelbase produced more space in
the interior.
However, this extra space wasn't at the expanse of performance. The
more steeply raked windscreen and Kamm tail improved the
aerodynamics. This made it slip through the air more easily. The DB6
came with more options such as air conditioning, power steering and
limited-slip differential, with fuel injection later in the model's
life.
The Aston DB6 has one of the most stylish dashboards of all the
classic cars available. It truly is a work of art. The instrument
panel echos the trademark shape of the grille. The interior has
rather nice grey leather and rich blue carpeting.
The DB6 is quite docile at slow speeds due to the flexibility of the
gearbox and the huge amount of torque available.
Second gear can prove some what reluctant to engage before the car
reaches a comfortable working temperature. This is a common problem
on many high-performance cars from this period. The fitted power
steering allows effective handling at all speeds. The brakes pull the
car up straight and quickly.
An Aston Martin DB6 will fetch in the region of between £85,000
and £ 95,000 in good condition. The DB6 is a great classic
sports car that has stood the test of time. You would be proud to own
one.
