1969 Hillman Minx Deluxe
The Hillman Hunter was launched in 1966, it represented a big
improvement on the previous super Minx range. It had strut front
suspension, subtle yet stylish looks and a pleasant driving
experience.
The new Hillman Minx Deluxe followed in 1967 and was a stripped out Hunter
with all frills firmly removed. There was another Minx Deluxe
launched in 1968 that had some frills added back in. The only frills
the Minx Deluxe had were a two-speed heater fan, a bit of fancy trim
and carpets.
On the windscreen there is a warning sticker, telling you to always
use first gear when pulling away.
The Minx is a delight to drive. The steering may be by recirculating
ball but being free of play. It was not difficult to steer an
accurate course. The gear change is great too with a surprisingly
brisk acceleration. Maintaining a decent pace is no challenge. Also
you don't have to work the engine to hard. The brakes are excellent,
especially when achieving an emergency stop. The Minx seemed to be
completely free of clunks and rattles that is usually expected from
an old classic.
The Minx has loads of period charm. It's a delight to drive and seems
very reliable for its age. It has stood the test of time and very
gracefully too.
