1978 Mini Marcos MKIV Coupe
The Mini Marcos was designed by Brian Moulton for Jem Marsh. It first ran at Castle Combe in 1965. It was launched the following year at Earl's Court in January 1966. It was a year ahead of the Mini-Jem. In 1967, the body shape had some changes made to it, with a larger front number plate panel. Also more changes included; recessed fuel filler and simpler, semi-circular wheel arches instead of the distinctive notched design.
From 1975 until 1981, production of the Mini Marcos, was taken over by D & H Fibreglass Techniques LTD based in Oldham, Lancashire.
The wooden dash and console of the Mini Marcos has been painted the same colour as the exterior which is blue. There are extra instruments across the dash, duplicating the minor gauges in the Mini three-dial binnacle. After engaging the clutch, it pulls well, which is expected with a weight of around 500kg. The gear change is very smooth and accurate. It drives and brakes straight and the brake pedal is firm and effective.
The 1978 Mini Marcos MKIV Coupe is a classic car, yet the design looks quite modern. There is attention to detail throughout the car. The Europeans seem to like the classic yet modern design and the fact that it's made of fibreglass.
