1990 Bentley Turbo R
The Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit and Bentley Mulsanne took the
successful Silver Shadow theme to new levels of sophistication in the
early 1980's. They were larger, lower and offered higher levels of
ride comfort and refinement. The Bentley Variant had an added turbo,
modified and enhanced suspension. This was considered a luxury when
the Bentley was built. In turbo R form, it claimed to be an ultimate,
high performing, luxury car.
The interior of the Bentley consists of parchment leather seats in
dark blue. The carpets are dark blue that are bound in parchment and
deep lambs wool over-rugs. There is climate/cruise control, electric
memory sports seats and remote locking. Some Bentley's have veneered
picnic tables in the rear and a hide headlining.
There are a lot of components crammed into the Bentley's engine bay.
The turbo models can get high under-bonnet temperatures that cause
decay of electrical wiring and pipework.
Inside the cabin the engine seems very quiet and super smooth. The
big alloy V8 drives lots of ancillaries and you can hear belts
working.
The Turbo R weighs 2500kg and looks very big but once you are in the
driving seat it doesn't seem so big. Active ride suspension offers
superb refinement along with nimble handling responses.
The Bentley Turbo R can be very expensive to maintain but if you are
after luxury and style, this car provides this.
